The depressed couple who want to improve their marriage can try couple therapy. Couple therapy is comprehensive clinical trial for couples which helps depressed married couples. The reason a marriage ends is due to a single person but if you want to make your marriage work you have to be together. The research was conducted by university of California and the lead of the study was Andrew Christensen.
Andrew is a professor of psychology in the University of California at Los Angles. The couple therapy had participation of about 134 couples 71 from Los Angles and 63 in Seattle. The married couples about half had children and in the age group of 30 to 40.The couples were seriously depressed and fought frequently and wanted to improve their marriage. The study was done to these couples who were consistently unhappy with their marriage.
Around 100 couples were being excluded as they did not meet the criteria. There was 26 therapy sessions being conducted within one year and psychologists even conducted follow up sessions. The following sessions was being conducted six months once for a period of five years after the therapy ended. There was two types of therapy conducted one was traditional behavioral couple therapy and integrative behavioral therapy. Traditional behavioral therapy deals with making positive changes and better ways of communicating about the problems and solutions.
The integrative behavioral therapy deals with the emotional reactions.
