Iran has been a challenge to US and the Western world right from 1985. Since then the country has got into the hands of fundamentalists who are working overnight to enhance their say in the region. Initially Iran went into a decade long war with Iraq and then it went into trade confrontation with US and the West.
Now it is openly pursuing Nuclear weapons program and is not ready to heed any ear to the US or the West. This is despite the strong sanctions in place against the country. Iran is the only Middle East country which is economically the most backward, in spite of holding the world’s second largest natural gas reserves.
Now the US administration can be expected to move swiftly to push back the Nuclear weapons program of Iran. Most probably that is possible through direct confrontation with Iran, which could further deteriorate the confidence of the Muslim world against the US and the Western world.
It would be safe for US and Western countries to fight it out with Iran now itself, rather than confronting it after it becomes a nuclear power in real sense.
Russia and China have so far been resisting further action against Iran, but these countries also might now agree on broader sanctions against Iran in the coming days.
