The first Guantanamo detainee to be brought to the US for trial has pleaded not guilty to involvement in two embassy blasts in East Africa in 1998. Ahmed Ghailani, the very first inmate of Guantanmo, appeared before a federal court in New York, after being transferred there earlier in the day. He was detained in Pakistan in 2004 and taken to Guantanamo in late 2006. The case is seen as a test of the Obama administration’s pledge to close Guantanamo Bay by next January.
