The crown of the Statue of Liberty which was closed to the public since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, will reopen July 4, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced Friday. Salazar made the announcement on NBC’s “Today” show in an appearance standing inside the statue’s crown, which he said gave him “goose bumps.” The inside of the crown on the statue has a circular staircase of 168 steps. The national park service is coming with a plan for those who want to climb the staircase. The agency said access would be limited to 10 people at a time, guided by a ranger.

Finally, Liberty is once again available for all.
