While Nadal created history by winning more than Borg in terms of number of consecutive wins on the French open clay court, in the women’s section, the going was not so smooth for the second seed Serena Williams.
Serena Williams was given a huge scare by the 100th seed Kalara Zakopalova. However Serena managed wel to beat the world number 100 in a thrilling first-round match at the French Open. Serena easily took the first set but lost her way after five match-points came and went at 5-3 in the second set, eventually losing it in a tie-break. Zakopalova saved three more match-points in the decider before Serena clinched a 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 win.
