The final rounds of the best college show of the year is coming up. We will soon know who has it and who is going to really fit the bracket. Is it going to be my favourite Texas or is it going to be somebody else?

That really is the question now.

How has it gone in the last few years?

2008 : Kansas; 2007 : Florida; 2006 : Florida; 2005 : North Carolina; 2004 : Connecticut

My favourite is going to be Texas this year.

In spite of the fact that they are not there in the last 4 years.

Not just because I love the team. Not just because several of my friends are from there and will be rooting for that team. But because I think Texas can really do it this year.

Texas has a clear leader who is good. They always seemt to have it. Even couple of years back, they had Kevin Durant. Last year they had D.J. Augustin. This year they have  A.J. Abrams.

Abrams, is averaging a good 16.6 points per game during his senior campaign. He is a superb outside shooter. He is also a solid slasher. He can score in any which way imaginable.

Texas also has two fantastic forwards in Damion James and Gary Johnson. These two can really put the put the ball in the basket. James is very versatile. He  can knock down the long ball. He can also get the ball to the basket. He is also the best rebounder on the team.

Johnson has improved a lot these days. He used to average 5.6 points per game as a freshman. Now,  as a sophomore, he averages 11.2 this year.  He also does a fine job on the glass.

The opposition would find it very difficult to hit the glass when these two are on the floor.

However, though Abrams is a great shooter, the rest are not good from the long range.

Justin Mason is struggling. If Abrams’ shot does not find it, or if the opposition puts up the box defense, and keeps Abrams boxed in effectively, Texas interior play goes dead. There is too much pressure on Abrams to deliver. 

But there is hope. Dexter Pittman and Connor Atchley can both start.  They also have good capable centers. Atchley should do better, given the law of averages – since he has not had a great average so far but that means he can only get better during the season. 

All in all, the Final Four is here and it is going to be fun and excitement all the way.
