Is US banks on recovery mode ?

The US bank shares have been surging in the last few days due to the comments by Citigroup head Pandit, that the bank has been making cash profits for the first time after 2007, in this quarter so far. And if the US banking industry is to recover, then it is quite likely to trigger a global recovery. And there are some stray signs of this, in terms of increasing commodity prices. Crude oil has shot up to 45 dollars from 35 dollars a month ago, while many industrial metals are quoting near their two / three monthly highs owing to base demand from China and Japan and US.
