IBM is suposedly talking to Sun Microsystems on a buy out deal. The deal is valued at $7 Billions. The proposed merger, if comes through, wouls end up consolidating the server computers market for corporate data centers. Hence, this might also end up prompting antitrust challenges. Antitrust chllenges might arise simply because between the two, they would be 65% of the unix operating systems market and 42% of the total servers market . IBM + Sun coming together would also prompt a larger commitment to R&D and open software.

Given the fluid market conditions, whether this will also take care of all the employees interest and whether all of them will find themselves a job is something else. If the behemoths come together, it will also be an opportunity to ‘rightsize’ the new entity.
