The European Union members who met yesterday to discuss measures to tackle the economic crisis decided that the members countries will desist from taking any unilateral protectionist measures. But how far they will be able to hold on to their collective decision, depends on the condition of their local economic condition. Most of the European countries, especially France and Switzerland are in deep trouble and are likely to see worse conditions in coming months. That may force them to take unilateral protectionist measures which may have a negative fallout on other restraining EU members.
